What will happen? most of Florida is less than 12 feet above sea level and a 12 foot storm surge is coming?

Much of Florida has an elevation of less than 12 feet (3.7 m), including many populated areas such as Miami which are located on the coast. Miami and other parts of south Florida are the most vulnerable regions in the world to rising sea levels associated with climate change.

The 11 am report from the Hurricane center is better news than previous reports. On the east coasts winds will not hurricane force, but western Florida will have Cat 3 or possibly Cat 4, with a strong storm surge pushing water on shore, but the eastern side, which is most dangerous, will be on shore so the surge will not be as bad as it could be.

@Humanist321 Not as bad as it can be, but it could still be pretty bad. A 4 or 6 foot storm surge is nothing to sneeze at for low-lying areas on the east coast of Florida. And 12 foot storm surge plus 130 mph winds on Sanibel and Captiva Islands could be catastrophic.
@windinhishair Yes, that is true, unfortunately. AGB, Vero Beach
