Is political debate dead?

All I see are echo chambers. Biased media with biased articles and biased comments where those who dare to disagree with the political leanings of the site or newspaper are bashed
Even here, most questions are either 'let's excoriate Trump' or 'let's bash liberals', and if you dare to disagree and spoil the private party, the pack shows their sharp teeth.

One of the main problems is that in order to have political debate, both sides have to have a fairly solid grasp of the concepts involved. Too many on here act as political surrogates, simply parroting what they and their fellows want to be true.

Another problem, certainly for us in the U.S., is that the drive to win, to be right, to take top spot is more important than listening to other opinions. We measure success by bigger, faster, stronger, more. That trickles down to the street level, where everyone wants to be the champion of the playground. That we have a leader who epitomizes that attitude to a pathological degree doesn't help.

Lastly, the media isn't helping anyone. They still report facts (hard to argue with video taped quotes), but they have become openly biased and proud. That hurts both sides.
