Should executions be televised?

In North Korea, when kids get to be 12 or 13, they are forced to attend public executions. Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran and Somalia also execute publicly.

The U.S. is #5 on the countries that execute the most.

Given the laws surrounding the death penalty here, should executions be public or aired on television?

I think it would help the public better recognize them as a deterrent, behind closed doors they aren't really thought about. I also think they are barbaric and disgusting and that if we moved to public executions, history may repeat and they could become entertainment. If they went that far ... you know this day in age, there would be sponsorships and they'd become commercialized -- that makes my skin crawl visualizing.
