Slippery Slide To Third World Status

Before 6AM today, the President tweeted:
Amazon is doing great damage to tax paying retailers. Towns, cities and states throughout the U.S. are being hurt - many jobs being lost!
Background: Jeff Bezos, the CEO of Amazon owns the Washington Post.

So, as the WaPo continues to provide factual coverage, and reports the real story, and seeing that people don't believe Trump's claims (that the WaPo is fake news), he's going after the owner (who does not actually get involved in the WaPo's content).

Amazon is one of America's success stories, it employs hundreds of thousands of people, and has made $Bs in investments in this country's manufacturing and infrastructure. But, because the WaPo refused to become FoxNews, then let's use the power of government to shut them up.

Doesn't this sound like something a third rate, third world dictator would do?

The WaPo is about as factual as any other news source these days, you just have to know going in it's highly biased.
Since I live in Virginia and we have numerous Amazon warehouses I have to pay sales tax, Amazon is still cheaper than most retail places and certainly more convenient.
There is no reason sales tax regardless of state should not be applied.

Good, because that's not the case. Amazon charges sales tax, in ALL 45 states, that have a sales tax, as well as DC. The President is either lying, or he does not know what he's talking about, or knows exactly what's going on, but is manipulating his useful idiots, to shut down the opposition.

@Northwest oh ok that's news to me, but last time I paid attention to the sales tax thing was years ago, I suppose as they add warehouses everywhere the sales taxes got implemented.
We have a second shipping center going into Richmond, right now as it is I often get my orders within 24hrs.

@Niburu The law says that you must charge a sales tax, for every location you ship to, where you have a presence. This would be every single state.

So, which is it? Is the President:

1. A liar

2. Has no clue

3. Manipulating useful idiots

go back more than 5 years and that was not the case
Northwest · M
@Niburu Go back 5 years, and Amazon did not have the same market size. 6 years ago, Amazon charged sales tax only in 5 states, but those were also the states that represented the bulk of its business.

So, what you're saying, is that you want to base your answer about the President, using 6 year old data, based on markets that did NOT exist. Good one. Maybe we can also go back, and ask Hillary not to get that private email server, while we're at it, or instead of having a private server, she should have hosted it on AWS.

5 Years ago, Amazon did not make money either, and the Mercer Street exit, off I-5 was still tolerable.

my point exactly
I was trying to explain my initial incorrect statement about said sales taxes and that is all
So, what you're saying, is that you want to base your answer about the President, using 6 year old data, based on markets that did NOT exist
.

Not my point at all, you're inferring a connection where there was none made.

I have no idea where this came from either.
Maybe try some herbal tea and relax a little.

@Niburu Next time try replying to something current, and relevant to the question I asked.
Niburu · 51-55, M
@Northwest I thought I was with the sales tax thing.
You corrected me, I admitted I was incorrect.
And the you went off on unrelated tangents.

@Niburu

OK,let's try one more time. Here's my post:

Do you understand the topic now, or are you being obtuse? and stop worrying about your incorrect information?
Niburu · 51-55, M
As I responded in my initial post I didn't find the sales tax burdensome, additionally adding that I found their costs reasonable and their services very convenient thus negating what Trump had said.
Points you apparently did not see.
God forbid someones agrees with you but not in just the specific way you want.

Nice try though.
Niburu · 51-55, M
@Northwest I wasn't answering your question, I was supporting your point about Trump being wrong about Amazon.
Since you apparently don't want me agreeing with you in any sort of way, next time I see you post something I agree with I won't post anything, since that at seems to be what you want.
Northwest · M
@Niburu You can play coy all day long, but when you start your interactions with me, by calling me obtuse, insisting on it, acting like you have some super power, specifically, the power to read my mind, and then follow that up in another post, by offering a vague response, that starts out with a reminder that the WaPo is biased, then you're asking me to read your mind. I don't have that kind of super power.

But then, you continue with the mind reading and passive aggressive behavior by saying "Since you apparently don't want me agreeing with you in any sort of way.....since that at seems to be what you want."

Post, don't post. It's really up to you.
