They were getting pentagon funded reassignment surgery out the military budget and from taxpayers. I mean I want a $10,000 humanoid robot (not meant as a toy but meant to be programmable for research and other things) but we can't all get what we want.

@SatanBurger Our military puts their lives on the line, and some of them pay the ultimate price. They are entitled to the best medical coverage that we can offer. It isn't the equivalent of a toy.

@windinhishair Sex change operations could cost billions while at the same time the military has 40 year old planes that hardly work. Good luck trying to defend a country like that in the long run and good luck convincing taxpayers that they should pay for those things. I don't even think people would like paying for a real woman's free tits let alone someone wanting a sex change.

You would however sure have a point if they had the operation before the military.. it's not like I care. If they can do the job but there's a lot more involved in the practice than just poofing your gender away overnight. You consider hormonal therapy among a bunch of other things. Then they have to go through the process of actually proving they really want it because some people actually transition and regret it.

They were also saying severe budget cuts were harming military readiness in all branches of service.

@SatanBurger The cost argument is a red herring. Costs for medical care for transgendered people already in the military is a very small fraction of the total medical costs, let alone compared to the military budget. Certainly not BILLIONS as you assert it COULD be. The military spends much more on Viagra than it does on the transgendered. The costs are miniscule, whereas the transgendered provide many needed services at a time when the military has difficulty filling some positions.
