my labels (poetry)
my labels
you say you don’t
like my labels,
but I see labels wide and far.
labels for all
you think I am,
and labels for what you are.
it seems you don’t
like my labels,
only when not made by you.
you want to control
my meaning,
as if to conceal my truth.
you say you don’t
like my labels,
but why can’t you just see.
although you don’t
like my labels,
all you’ve ever done is label me.
you say you don’t
like my labels,
but I see labels wide and far.
labels for all
you think I am,
and labels for what you are.
it seems you don’t
like my labels,
only when not made by you.
you want to control
my meaning,
as if to conceal my truth.
you say you don’t
like my labels,
but why can’t you just see.
although you don’t
like my labels,
all you’ve ever done is label me.
