I Write Poetry
I tried... :D

Listen, dear children, and hear my tale well,
Of that hateful day when shadows ne’er
Before on Earth to dwell, on that day fell
Upon Mankind, never to leave again.
They came, belched from within Earth’s hellish core
In days of yore, long before Man’s heart lost
Its song, and wracked his body with fearful
Tremors as it hid nestled in his breast.
Birthed in the fog-fetid alleys of Dis,
Oozing outward from death-corrupted wombs,
Silently screaming from vaporous mouths,
Writhing like tormented streaks of midnight
Up toward the sun-bless’d lands of man they
Soared, creeping through cracks long in the making
In lands barren from all of Man’s taking,
Our rent Earth, sorrow-wracked, began quaking.
The Sun, ever watchful, cast its spears down,
But alas! these hateful invaders came
In a torrent, unceasing, and too soon
Our tired Sun faltered and, weakened, fell.
Thus came to Earth a sky born of shadow,
And a false sun, cream-white, crested the hills.
(Still, you can see the twinkling tears shed by
Our shamed Sun burning in the sky above)
Mankind had never before faced darkness,
And so with hearts terror-bound, Man drowned.
For time unknown Shadows wandered Earth
And all Mankind slept a deathly slumber.
While Man slept, Our Sun hid far, far away,
For It thought Man had been lost forever.
Then - sudden, as flowers fresh blossoming,
Man arose from His deathly slumber.
He awoke in a foreign land, to a sky
Of twinkling lights leering down upon Him
And a land wreathed in shade, deep and grim-
But still a rogue light glowed within his breast.
All through the Dark Land Man found Man with light,
And soon the grim forests and stifled brooks
Murmured of a single glowing beacon
Shining bright as ever-hated sunlight.
Nearby shadows wailed, blinded and burned,
They fled, gathering among twisted trunks
Where the loathsome light could not reach, and schemed,
Whispering words ancient and full of hate.
Lo! Our dear Sun saw a pillar of light pierce
The glowering shadows in the Heavens above,
Its hopes renewed, a new fire kindled
Within its core, fierce and all-consuming.
As a knight battles his foes, so the Sun
Cast spears of searing light at the shadows,
And cutting swathes through the demonic host,
Its war cries shook the heavens, thunderous.
Alas, while the Sun battled, brave and strong,
The earthbound shades gathered, a hungry host,
And swarmed from the deepest shadows toward man,
Screaming hatred, envy, all-consuming.
Man grouped together, forming a wall bright,
And as the sea crashes against the shore,
Shatters and retreats, then attacks anew,
So the shades came upon man and they battled.
But though many of that evil host fell
To the Earth, writhing and fading away,
Their numbers were too great for Man that day,
And as one, Man screamed and was overcome.
The sky shone clear and bright a moment late,
Though when Our Sun cast forth its glowing light,
It shone upon Man alone, and rejoiced,
For it could not see, our dear Sun, His hate.
But Man could see, casting his gaze earthward
As our warm Sun shone upon his bare back,
Another man gazing back, of pure black,
For the shades now dwell within each Man’s breast.
Many more gather where our dear Sun’s rays
Cannot pierce, cowering in the corners,
And whirling around the Sun-shaded forests,
Amassing in number, hissing, scheming-
Do not fear, my dear children, we have light,
And wherever it shines, like rats fleeing
Flame, so too will those loathsome shades scatter
And seek shelter where darkness grows deeper.
Though that false sun will ‘ever shine at night,
To remind of the day shades came to dwell
Upon Earth, from the deepest pits of hell,
And brought hatred, war, and greed to Mankind.
[But wait! Oh please, wait, and hear my plea well –
I shiver and quake in both dark and light,
Our Sun casts no spears at my enemies,
And candlelight cowers from my desperate grasp.
I feel their chill whispers in the night breeze
As they crawl from sewers and prowl the streets –
I fear they come for me like thieves in the night
. . .And I, oh I, am too weary to fight.]
