I Write Poetry
A Small Gathering
I went out for a walk just last week
A walk down a dusty old road
My eyes were blessed by the blue sky
The wind seemed to lighten my load
After a while I stopped to rest
Beside a field covered in flowers
The colors were many and vibrant
Still damp from recent rain showers
Crossing a fence and into the field
I lay down to rest for a while
The wind in the blooms seemed to whistle
As I listened I started to smile
I then heard the tinkle of laughter
Though my ears had to strain for the sound
My eyes which had closed snapped right open
To my shock there were fairies around
I froze and they seemed not to notice
As one brought out a lute, for to play
He was joined by a pixie on banjo
And a brownie was dancing ballet
In a trice the party was going
As a human I was privileged to see
The small folk were having a gathering
So I stayed just as still as could be
There were fairies dancing with partners
And a pixie that spun all alone
Small imps would perch on the flowers
And a leprechan sat on a stone
There were elf-girls a-kissing the dwarf-boys
And such blushes you never have seen
The sprites and the nymphs were quite bashful
And a bogie ate all the cuisine
I saw a nysse twirl with a goblin
And smelled fairy bread on the breeze
A genie popped in with a flourish of dust
It tickled my nose and I sneezed
In an instant the small folk were gone
With nary a sign of their game
Just me and the grass and the flowers
With no proof to the things that I claim
I went out for a walk just last week
A walk down a dusty old road
My eyes were blessed by the blue sky
The wind seemed to lighten my load
After a while I stopped to rest
Beside a field covered in flowers
The colors were many and vibrant
