Survival or Living?
Why do sorrow, anger, fear
Are often easier to accept
Than welcoming
Happiness,
Peace,
Love?
Is it because
We crave the stability
Of predictable disappointment,
Of accepting lesser than we need —
Of no longer getting in too deep
Than we already are?
Has being letdown
Become just a “norm”
That we expect the worse
After every turn, after every laugh —
Patiently waiting
For the other shoe to drop?
Why does grasping hope
Feel so fragile
Like a bubble
in a child’s hand
Faintly there..
That we believe it as absent
Is it because we understood
That salvation cannot be guaranteed
Without the feeling of loss?
Hence, we are content..
In turning a blind eye
And mistaking survival into living
