Long Raven Hair
I was 16, a few days shy to 17
You were doing your masters
I fancied your mind
And the next thing I knew,
You were locking the door.
Glad, I made it out - half-alive
You kept texting
Sweet nothingness
Bringing cakes and letters
Weaving devious, calculative reasons
And the next thing I knew,
I was a mouse in a trap
We were back to close doors again
A snake wrapped around my throat
I was silenced.. tongue tied
Voice scissored by fear
You were drawn to my long raven hair
I cut it the next day
You were devastated
I was relieved.. somewhat
Then you left, my colors with you
Leaving me, with just gray and blue
I had to drown with white little tablets
Or choose to sleep with nightmares
Then I was 26, a few months shy of 27
Your presence still lingers from the crowd
Yet, I keep my hair short, a reminder of time
Writing this, I’ve decided not to cut them anymore
I’ll let my hair down, let them grow
And take what’s mine—strand by strand.
