She's Magic

I watched a dirty movie clip once
Where a woman danced a striptease
To a Henry Mancini tune.
She had a silk handkerchief that would disappear
When she poked it into her fist.
After showing her empty hands,
She would make it reappear
From the most surprising places.

The clip was fun and funny,
And I watched it a few times
Over the years.
Eventually, I figured out the secret
And then it wasn't as much fun anymore.
Once she was magic, but then
She was just a woman with . . .
Well, I won't give it away.

I think that what I like about magic.
Is not the illusion itself,
But the knowledge that the woman
With the silk handkerchief
Knows something I don't.
That she's teasing me
And outsmarting me.
By making magic, she's magic.
