One more I love from Leonard Cohen, the imagery of the song is just so clear,

I lit a thin green candle to make you jealous of me
But the room just filled up with mosquitos
They heard that my body was free
Then I took the dust of a long sleepless night
And I put it in your little shoe
And then I confess that I tortured the dress
That you wore for the world to look through

I showed my heart to the doctor: he said I just have to quit
Then he wrote himself a prescription
And your name was mentioned in it!
Then he locked himself in a library shelf
With the details of our honeymoon
And I hear from the nurse that he's gotten much worse
And his practice is all in a ruin

I heard of a saint who had loved you
So I studied all night in his school
He taught that the duty of lovers
Is to tarnish the golden rule
And just when I was sure that his teachings were pure
He drowned himself in the pool
His body is gone but back here on the lawn
His spirit continues to drool

An Eskimo showed me a movie
He'd recently taken of you
The poor man could hardly stop shivering
His lips and his fingers were blue
I suppose that he froze when the wind took your clothes
And I guess he just never got warm
But you stand there so nice, in your blizzard of ice
Oh please let me come into the storm

Very beautiful..

RIP leonard Cohen.... he was one of my most favourite sing writer... I love his poems too..
@Soossie One of these days I will travel again to Montreal, just to see the painting they have of him on a large piece of architecture (an apartment building), which is suiting, as I really feel he was a poet for the people
@thewindupbirdchronicles

Nice.... as you said he was a poet of people... so were poets like Pablo Neruda, Shamloo, Octavio Paz and some others
@Soossie Thank you, I'm always open to new material to read and get lost within. 🌹
@Soossie I do know Pablo Neruda well, may decide to pick up again... something about his sensual writing, yet so compassionate is compelling.

@thewindupbirdchronicles 🇺🇦🌻🇺🇦 Cohen is a good performance poet, maybe even great, like Dylan.

that is not a put down... poetry existed before writing and so its true roots are in performance.
@thewindupbirdchronicles

he is great in his beautiful poems, social or sentual...

Shamloo is an Iranian poet and Paz is a Mexican poet.. they are both very good poet..

And also if you like Spanish poems, you might want to look for Federico Garcia Lorca..
@Yulianna It's hardly considered a put down, Cohen probably had more grace in wanting to interpret his words and meanings before putting them out into the world. Dylan was better at abstract imagery and summing images quickly; different poets of equal quality.

I'm reading a biography of Cohen right now, and one of the remarks made about him, was just how well he could debate, not by his choice of argument, while smart, was just how eloquently he found words.
@Yulianna

Bob Dylan, like Tom Waits, is more of a songwriter (whom I love very much).... Leonard Cohen was a poet and a song writer...
@Soossie Dylan is definitely a poet but just of a different nature.
@thewindupbirdchronicles

I havent read any individual poems by him... I know most of his lyrics written for songs...

I'd loce to read some of his poems...
