Hotel Mirrors (August 17 Writing Challenge)

Hotel Mirrors

Another ticket
Another taxi
Another room key
Another midnight
Another alarm
Another shower
Another outfit
Another mirror

I am growing old in hotel mirrors.

A flight
A dinner
A funeral
A dinner
A flight
A dinner
A speech
A dinner
A meeting
A dinner
A flight

I am growing old in hotel mirrors

How about a friend?
How about a whisper?
How about a laugh?
How about a touch?
How about a chance?

I am growing old in hotel mirrors.

Love this - the style, form, imagery.
Looking into a mirror tells the story of your life and years.

I think I told you of those days when I stayed in hotels rooms just as much as I did at home.

The first thing I did whenever I enter a hotel room was walk straight to the window and check the views. I did that every single time I walked into a room. It was my way of “settling in” to another temporary room for that trip.

I love it. That was my life for a long time, too. So many hotel mirrors…

For me, it’s the face I see reflected at the bottom of my coffee cup. The same sparkle in the eyes, even as I’ve grown older.

@ChampagneOnIce Do you know "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock" by TS Eliot? It's basically about a guy who can never quite manage to take a risk or do anything, although there is more going on than just that. Anyway, there's a line that says "I have measured out my life in coffee spoons." And as I was getting dressed in front of a hotel mirror this morning, that looked exactly like every other hotel mirror I'd ever seen, it struck me that I was measuring out my life in similar fashion.

@Harmonium1923 I love little moments like that, those poignant recognitions in life.

But looking good as you do it. This I know. 😊

Indeed creative and yet sad in a way. But there are worse ways to grow old me thinks.

@Magenta Thanks, M. I was feeling reflective this morning, literally and figuratively.
