Window Story
It is now the Eve of Christmas.
The snow is blowing in circles outside
Howling like a pack of wolves
There is some sorrow felt in the windy night
Like lost souls crying in the night
The wisps of snow fly up and around the school
And run away into the alleys like spirits of children
Sparkles of fresh snow falling and glistening across city street lamps
The house windows down the street are lit up in orange warmth
The winter cold cuts through the dark figure as he walks by
He looks back down the street from where he came from
Unsure now of what to do in the winter chill
A stranger now stands among the twinkling and sparkling of lights from sheltered homes
Plumes of chimney smoke rise out of the roof tops
The despair is obvious now from the way his body carries it
Who has he lost? Who is he running from? Did she let him go?
Again the snow angels dance up into the air bringing a wind of snow onto him
Making the stranger hide into his jacket ever so more
The street lamp flickers off and on
Leaving him in the dark with some light to briefly hold onto
I wish the warmth in my socks would carry on over to him
The figure is now shrouded in semi-darkness away from the next city lamp
As he waves his arms as if to fight off the winter snow
The right corner of my eye catches something
It is moving with great speed under the hooded street lights
The man is now calling out with open arms
As his golden retriever jumps up all over him
