I Am A Poet

Here are a few poems I've written.

"What didn't kill me"

Can you imagine the horror/ of experiencing your worst fear/ become your worst night mate?/ I can/ because I did./ in what was/ supposed to be/ a 'routine' surgery/ derailed to abnormal/ in a millisecond flat./ it's called Anesthesia Awareness,/ or just awareness if you will,/ and the effects are long term./ Little to no sleep,/ nightmares and flashbacks/ 24-7?/ That was it,/ my living hell./ but you know,/ it didn't kill me,/ it fortified my spirit./ So here's a word of advice/ stick tight, things get better.

"Dawn"

Walking east with/ the sunrise,/ ah, a new day/ has dawned.

"Without it"

Without it they say,/ my anxiety's more anxious,/ my bipolar's more up and down,/ my insomnia's more awake,/ my pains more painful,/ my impulses are more impulsive!/ it's my much needed friend./ Let me have my maryjane!

"Onions"

You think you know someone,/ but do you really/ REALLY know them? / do you know what drives them,/ makes them who they are?/ To do that/ you gotta peel them/ into many layers/ just like an onion./ Yes it stinks,/ and you may cry while doing so,/ but just like this unpleasant task,/ it must be done/ to see the truth in e'ry layer.

"Temper"

My temper's fierce/ when I'm angry, it's like a coal/ that can still burn you,/ but isn't afire./ When I'm pissed/ on the other hand,/ my temper is/ a white-hot fury/ consuming and destroying/ everything it touches./ Oh great Creator,/ help me hold my tongue!

"Texas"

The flowers grow/ like splatter-paint/ beside the lonely road./ oh how they take me back/ to another city and year/ when this state was my home.

"Losing a friend"

It's really very sad/ that my favorite site/ is shutting down/ after having helped/ so many people./ Being here at the end/ is like watching/ a loved one/ right up to/ the bittersweet end,/ being there/ when they at last/ breath no more./ How will I/ carry on that spirit?/ By helping others/ as oft I can!

"Change"

Have you ever thought/ you could/ change the world/ for the better/ with a word or deed?/ I have./ It may take me/ fifty years,/ but it's not as if/ I've anything/ better to do
