I Will Wait

I await her return,
The one who brings joy to my soul,
With encouragement on her lips,
Restoring reasons to live
For what is true and good.
How I look to her return!

I have waited from before time,
Before there was a before,
And will look for her return
After the last grain of sand
Flows from time’s hourglass,
Tarrying until “after” is no more.

We have met back then,
Before it all began;
And as Age moves unto Age;
So we will meet again,
With the kind of love that
Cyrano professed for his Roxane.

I, too, offer her my heart,
And a measure of delight;
I hope she will see in me
A reflection of her light--
Friendship: we have always
Shared—and take it as her right.
