Evening twilight
Evening twilight in April
Looking west out of the rain speckled window
Drenched by the last downpour
Showers from the southwesterlies
Born form the temperate oceanic flows
Of the North Atlantic undertows
Behind the house the forest of old pines
And beech trees comes alive in the
Pale blue light of an April evening
Casting shadows and silhouettes
Born in the nautical twilight
Birds head home to their nests
Temperatures fall as wood fire scents
Mix with the smell of the rain
From the last 15 minute downpoor
And there is a pause in the lonely hour
The warm glow of the Edison bulbs
Of string lights on the tool shed
At the gardens end
Bring outline to the droplets of rain
Clinging but surrendering to gravity
On the window pane
Tears running down cheeks
Gravity making fools of us all
But for that brief time emotion flowed
Rain on the windows
Once warmed in loves anticipated glow
