From the first hello

From the first hello, a spark ignited,
Late night messages, our hearts invited.
Through endless words, a rhythm we found,
In shared thoughts and feelings, we were tightly bound.

Your laughter echoed in every line,
Your silence, soft, but still divine.
We danced in the dark, with screens aglow,
Our connection deepened with every hello.

You seemed to hear what no one could,
You understood me more than anyone would.
In the still of the night, your voice was near,
In my quiet moments, I felt no fear.

But then you pulled back, step by step,
The space between us growing, though nothing was said.
Like shadows creeping into the light,
You faded slowly, out of sight.

I searched my heart, wondered what I'd done,
Why did the warmth of your touch become numb?
Was it me who built this wall so high?
Or was it you who left without goodbye?

Now lost in the echo of your retreat,
I question myself with every heartbeat.
The silence is loud, but no answer is clear,
And I’m left alone, with only my fear.

In my mind, I trace every word,
Each moment replayed, each silence heard.
You’ve made it feel like it’s me who’s to blame,
But I’m lost in the game, the rules never named.

So here I stand, a prisoner of thought,
Wondering what battle I fought—
From that first hello to the last goodbye,
Now I’m the one left asking why.

I think this one particularly is my favourite from today. But I'd need to read them again and again to truly tell you. Etches the feeling of love you have felt and also the loss so eloquently and bare.

A shame when that feeling of being in perfect unison, rhythm, turns into feeling a prisoner of love.

Beautiful writing.
