I both like to write my own and read others poems. I started writing when I was 12. I'm not that experienced with famous poets but my absolute favourite poem is pinned under my profile.

Random fact: If you can write poetry you can also write lyrics. They're not that different.

Not for me the tales
Of fantasy, with dashing heroes
Slashing evil dragons
While trying either to find or to lose
(I forget which)
The gold ring that controls the universe.

Not for me the adventures
Of the undead as they
Roam the countryside
With their stiff-legged gait
To pursue maidens in castles
Or warriors in post-apocalyptic lands.

Not for me the magical creatures--
The mermaids, nymphs and sirens--
Who lure me
To some combination
Of paradisal love
And a watery grave.

I prefer the simpler fantasy
Where I the hero, and you the maiden,
Wander by the river hand in hand,
And the magical creature
Is a turquoise dragonfly
With translucent wings.
