I Wrote a Poem

I wrote this poem when I was about 15. I was heavy into Wicca at the time and it shows. I tried to correct my grammar as best I could and clean it up (it was really bad). Enjoy!

Hands of Time

Sounds of a cane can be heard in the distance
Creatures scurry to discover the disturbance
They see a familiar face seemingly in distress

An old man brought up in the "Old Ways"
Age has taken its toll and his complexion starting to fray
Long grey hair and beard tell stories of his time

The old man has travelled these woods since he was young
In the forest, creatures call him "The Spirited One"
Well known for his kindness and his mystical ways

Standing afoot of an ancient cavern deep within the land
He sits and calls out to a dear old friend
"Wise one and old friend come speak with me"

A deep weary voice echoes out of the cave
"Is that you Spirited One? Glad you have come"
"It has been many moons since your last visit"

Old man replies; "I know and gravest apologies old friend"
"You know Mother Earth beckons me to tend"
The ground trembles in movement from wise one

A large lizard like head moves out from the cave entrance
Covered in magnificent silver scale brilliance
"I know, but even a drake like me needs company"

"You seem troubled, what seems to ail you?"
Old man replies “Seems as the Old Ways are being diminished by the new"
"More and more have forgotten our ways"

The Old drake replies "Fear not, It's just time coming of age"
"It's their way of saying they no longer need our aid"
"Our ways won't fade away; it began at the dawn of time"

"We won't be forgotten, our stories will reside in dreams"
"Some will still follow our ways for the same means"
"Our ways will reside in love and trust"

The weary old man stands up with his cane at his side
"I thank you wise old friend, I feel revived"
"Sorry for the short visit, but I must take my leave"

"I understand" replied the tired drake
"Blessed be Spirited One and good care you take"
"By the light of the moon, may it care for your soul"

As the old man walked away he heard an eerie sound
He turned back only to a drake's still body on the ground
Rising from the carcass a transparent soul

As the drake’s soul departed, it whispered a few words
" Never forget me and never forget who you are and what we were"
The drake's spirit then flowed into the land like a great mist

The scene would never be forgotten by the old man
As saddened as he was, he knew it would someday happen
He raised his cane to the sky and chanted these words:

"Goddess and God heed my words
Bring this empty flesh back to the Earth"

The ground opened up and swallowed the spiritless drake
The words of his friend rang through head like ripples in a lake
He left the grounds so as to further not his pain

A few years later he returned to the cave
Overcome with tiredness he sat down under a tree that grew upon the grave
Falling asleep with old thoughts of his friend, his eyes never opened again
