I Wrote a Poem

This is only short because I'm not very good at poetry but as it is armistice day I wanted to write something original instead copying "in Flanders fields" or "lest we forget". Although it is good to say these things I feel that it's better to write something from your own mind in a way that you can understand its meaning properly. So here goes:

I wear a poppy in my shirt
To remember people buried in dirt,
People who travelled to places far
All for the sake of a pathetic war.
Many horrors did unfold
And many stories shall go untold.
Unsung heroes of the night,
Who fought for peace with all their might.
Those who fought to keep this land free,
People who fought for you and for me.

It’s very good that you’ve written this - can I recommend to you Forgotten Voices of the Great War by Max Arthur :)
