What Time Built Over us
All I see is bricks
Stacked with windows and cement
Where our playing grounds used to be
All I see is concrete
Hardened and firm
Over the grass and the dirt
All I see is dirty water
It fills a pool
Which used to be filled with the joy and laughter
-of my childlike self
All I feel is melancholy
Hoping the years bring a better life
And free me from the shackles of my trauma
All I do is yearn
For both my young innocent self
And for the life i wish to have
New years eve
Once filled with excitement and love
Turned into ache and longing,
Wishing for a sense of belonging.
But I cant turn back the hands of time
Or change what happened in this life of mine
I can't say I feel empty and cry.
So I say Happy New Year, with a smile.
