Without a word

Show me that you don't care
And I'll stay here if you prefer
Yes I'll leave you, without a word
- Without a word, Birdy

—————————————

Without reckless abandon
Without malice held
I’ll have you spread your wings
And leave the nest we once built
I’ll let the vines wrap around me
Cease my erratic thoughts,
Of what ifs and whatnots.
And in this stillness,
I would surrender
I’ll let the serpent
Sing me a final lullaby
Turning my body, spellbound
Warmth touching stone-cold
All of this -
Just to keep you free.
I’ll keep still,
Without a word.

Your poem beautifully captures the heavy price of unconditional love. I like you used imagery of petrification, turning “warmth to stone” illustrating a profound form of martyrdom. 😀
It’s a nice dignified exit where stillness becomes the foundation for the other's flight.
Great and the picture speaks volumes 👍🏻
