The worst that can happen
There is a sickening silence
A desperate,distressed attempt at guidance
When did we become a statistic
Why are they too scared to think of it
Students haunt our hallowed hallways
Stuck and suffering after those days, scared and shaking
Their mothers solemn cries yearning and aching
Just another kid
But you didn't see that fear, they did
We are told to hide under the absence of our classmates
Our teachers are taught to barricade
No one bats an eye anymore
Our cries for help seen as a chore
Our rasping breaths
A million different deaths
We are forced to learn calculus while gunshots ring
Our binders turned to shields
Our bodies buried in abandoned fields
Our teachers are taught to prepare for the worst
Yet we wonder why “our generation” is cursed
“It's not guns, it's the people who kill”
But people alone don't bend bodies at will
People move voices
Not Gods choices
Not screams on phones
We blame everything but the inevitable ending
How many more children are we sending
To deaths
To their last,aching breaths
How many more friends will they lose
Till we get it together and choose
As a nation we rally against one another
Our voices others attempt to smother
Just like the cries
Sunken eyes and spoken lies
Helpless and Hopeless
I haven't seen this I must confess
But i hear the cries
See the shattered lives
I feel the echo of fear in these halls
The holes that may one day shatter the walls
I wish this still felt safe
I wish we had a fail-safe
But we don't
What hurts most is that they can but…they won't
The families they have torn
Those solemn tombs,worn
Those empty stares
Thinking,believing no one cares
Because no one seems to
If they did there are things they could do
One day I pray
One day those people will have to look into her eyes
The grieving mother, choking and smothered in your lies
On lost lives
I hope he tells her he needed his guns
Because he hunts
Watch as her anger fronts
Because what she needed was her baby
She's been begging for her safety
Shes spent hours praying
Only to find her baby laying
Lifeless
Her heart empty and her life now fearless
Because that IS the worst that can happen
THAT is the worst that can happen
A mother in Georgia begs to be heard
The way she is silenced is absurd
A mother in Covenant rallies and rants
The words come out shaky, a grievers final dance
These women speak for safety
These women speak, their hands haunted and shaky
A mother finds no joy in her childs empty room
A mother can find no joy in that empty wailing womb
Hundreds of screams of every fallen kid
Everyone wanted to forget but no one really did
A father sent his babygirl to school with a smile
Now he scrubs her grief off the cold, empty tile
Grief for your child hardly ever ends
Kids grieving the deaths of childhood friends
We wonder why our kids grow up way to fast
While we train them to never EVER be last
We wonder why they are filled with anxiety and fear
As we scream over every loud noise we hear
Why do we wonder if our babies will make it home
Why do we wonder if they'll be in pain and alone
Would she know that I love her
Before its too late
Before they meet the exact same printed, passing fate
Did he know hes still my baby, my life and my love
Before the devil's hand me down sent him far above
Do they know we wait for them still
Before and after they're bones broke with sinners will
Never will I wait to tell my little ones i love them then
Because death waits for no one
No ones son
No ones daughter
No lonely grieving father
No mother filled with regret
No girl you’ve just met
Death waits for no one
So tell someone
Before the worst that can happen happens
Before the mad rage i speak
So tired of being seen as weak
So tired so unheard
Interrupted before i say a word
After all, who am I to have a voice
Who said I could ask for a choice
I have never been given permission
I know i'm supposed to wait for recognition
This is the world we know
This is the world that wont let its children grow
We may not get to grow up
We may be what they corrupt
Did our mothers know our cruel fate
Did she know this world would fill us with hate
With danger
That everyone would try and change her
Did she know that humans are made to move voices
Now we don't know what a choice is
We stare out of bullet holes
We mourn but never avenged those tortured souls
We are made to move the people around us
To Discuss
We don't need to move mountains
Praying for meaningless wins
Keeping every piece of you
Doing what we aren't meant to do
People preach peace but all I hear are screams
Nothing, Nothing is what it seems
“Guns don't kill, people do”
Is this what it comes down to
But we know this is the worst that can happen
A desperate,distressed attempt at guidance
When did we become a statistic
