I wish you were winter

I wish you were winter, so I could offer a bonfire for you to melt into me. I am either useful or expendable; inflammable and extinguishable. I am the burden I carry by holding onto everything that passes by.

I wish you were winter, so the lake that has taken and drowned us can freeze in place until we swim for ourselves. Let us learn how to consciously breathe under water and ice without being valuable.

I wish you were winter, so I could hibernate while your gentle breeze brushes over me. You give me goosebumps that can be read like Braille; painted in warm coats and molded in cold memories.

You mightn't be winter, as seasons change and leave, I only wish you were here to let go into. There will always be a winter storm. I do not ask for the lightning to stop; I pray for the right umbrella to hold.
