The Ghost of You
I see you everywhere now.
A cruel ghost disguised with immaculate charm,
Setting out to gruel and harm.
I see you at restaurants,
In the bottom of a man’s whiskey glass,
Overcome with flashes of raunch and crass,
Your sly grin as you looked at me,
Encouraging me to drink up,
So you could grope and feel my back.
I see you in newspapers,
Coaxing me with lies,
That my anxiety is our love’s demise,
A hellfire erupting in gray-blue eyes.
But your haunt is like a warning sign,
Never crossed a second time.
A cruel ghost disguised with immaculate charm,
Setting out to gruel and harm.
I see you at restaurants,
In the bottom of a man’s whiskey glass,
Overcome with flashes of raunch and crass,
Your sly grin as you looked at me,
Encouraging me to drink up,
So you could grope and feel my back.
I see you in newspapers,
Coaxing me with lies,
That my anxiety is our love’s demise,
A hellfire erupting in gray-blue eyes.
But your haunt is like a warning sign,
Never crossed a second time.
