We are talking about abuse in maternity wards, and I mention how a doctor in Egypt who reported sexual abuse is being sued for defamation unless

The female patients step forward themselves.
And my colleague says it is backward society where women don't report. I had to remind her of an Algerian case where teachers actually protested against the arrest of fellow teacher who was reported for abuse.

This nonsense is everywhere.

Many times I have seen staff humiliate and abuse patients in maternity wards. And I wasted time and resources because of it.

They cover for one another and are tribalistic everywhere.

My colleague didn't add a single word after I brought up that example and others for physical abuse. Makes me think she is fine with this shit.

I will keep talking about uncomfortable topics. I don't care. People always think their countries are absolved from acknowdging the effery that happens within their borders. They like to believe they are better and more evolved. So they don't take any constructive actions and keep being apathetic.

I work with a bunch of bare minimum idiots.

In MENA countries in particular, after a third party reports abuse, whether in a maternity ward or a school, does that always trigger an investigation, and during the investigation do the victims ultimately acknowledge the abuse occurred or do they deny it for whatever reason, leaving the person reporting more vulnerable to criminal, civil and/or general tribalistic reprisals?

I'm guessing MENA countries are culturally less likely or slower to implement mandatory reporting laws coupled with qualified immunity protection for those who report, but I see UAE has passed something (interesting that UAE has an inconsistent view on human rights, both internal and external).

Please do keep talking about the uncomfortable topics, at least in contexts where you do not have any extra risk of physical harm for doing so 🤗

There are many mechanisms just like in the US , but reality and paperwork are not always the same, also just like in US and Canada. This is a sever global problem.

Even in cases related to your country, I was left vulnerable. Even related to SW...
