Did Anyone Else Here Notice this Huge Mistake in the Film "Gravity"?
Poll - Total Votes: 0You're right, they really screwed up there.
What can you expect? It's Hollywood, they're always getting things wrong.
It's just a film. Get over it.
I haven't even seen the movie, and I don't really care.

You know, that film with Sandra Bullock and George Clooney.
It was a good film, but... (spoiler alert)
That scene about a third of the way through the film, where the two of them are hanging on to that tether because the space shuttle they were using was obliterated by the debris that resulted from that Russkie anti-satellite test (Putin strikes again, the bastard).
Anyway, there she is, trying to hang on to Clooney, and saying something like, "Don't let go, don't let go", but... why? I mean, why doesn't she just reel him in, like a fish at the end of a line? What's pulling him away from her? Certainly not gravity, because as we all should know (especially the makers of this film) along with all the debris and other mess up there, both Sandra and George were experiencing the exact same forces upon them, the velocity of their prograde motion acting to counter-act the force of the Earth's gravity. Bodies in motion will, of course, have a natural tendency to move in a straight line, and the reason why they do not in LEO is due to the existence of the mass of the Earth itself; hence, you have a balance of forces, and therefore George should not be experiencing any extra force pulling him away from Sandra, because there are no other forces to contend with up there.
