All I know is that te lady was wrong to do that to ANY child. Asking to share or take turns would have been the most appropriate action on her part. They could have also just chosen another game if they couldn't bring themselves to ask to share.
Cigarguys · 41-45, C
@Mindful i don't understand why she just didn't ask him if her son could play for a while. He probably would have said yes. She just assumed he was a regular 10 year old playing a game she didn't think he should be playing because he was 10

I would let this incident go.
If you are contacted by the police, you can say you do not want the incident to go any further and you will not be allowing Link to be a part of any court action.
You done everything to stand up for your son and Link saw that.
Yes, the lady really needs to learn that she cannot go around manhandling people, especially children.
There is a fine line, how far do you take it as a parent?
If you lay charges, then the process will be greatly prolonged, and Link is the important person here.
The sadness and stress he would go through if you proceeded through the courts will be too much for him. Link wants happiness and loving every day. Not completely stressing out and being incredibly sad waiting for the court day.
Not something I could put a child through.

@Gusman i would never allow him to appear in any court room. He wouldn't understand what was going on and why all the people were looking at him. He would get nervous and not answer anything they asked him.
I never thought of this but thank you for bringing it up. We won't be pressing charges. I can't do that to him.

Charges should absolutely be filed on this woman who put her hands on Link. How many times has she done this before and got away with it? Or will in the future. I think you have a duty to Link and any other child she may have or will again do this too. The manager should be able to file assault charges on her. Ask the police if it’s possible for the manager to proceed. If they say you must file charges then I would tell them I will but Link must not be involved. Talk to the district attorney about it and see what they can do. Sometimes the police overstep their authority on decisions that the district attorney needs to make not them. She assaulted him. That is something that should not be let go.
This is not about "revenge" though.
It's not even about your "disabled son"... fundamentally, it's about a right we all have - and that's the right to go about our daily lives... without anyone else thinking that they can randomly lay their hands on another person for any reason.
Link was clearly not in any danger to himself or to others if he didn't end his turn then and there. Star was there to vouch for his safety - so why did that woman feel the need to assault him???
"I want Link to be safe, respected, and protected"
What is in this for Link??? If you don't go forward with pressing charges, he learns that consent means nothing. She didn't even ask to touch him... and he wouldn't have said "Yes" if she had. Beyond Link, people thinking they can touch is a real big problem.
When faced with people in wheelchairs, they think they can just push the chair however they like. Sure, a manual chair will push however you like - but electric chairs will not. If you are not the carer for the person in the chair, leave it alone or you might break it.
Maybe safety, protection and respect is sometimes about teaching your son to stand up for his rights in a world that will strip them from him if given half the chance. At ten years old, he's old enough to be learning the process for what to do when it happens again and valuing the time when Dad stood up for his rights against that mean lady.

@HootyTheNightOwl I understand what you're saying, and I agree that Link has the same right as anyone else to have his body and boundaries respected. I want him to know his disability doesn't mean people can touch, move, or make decisions for him without his consent.
But protecting Link doesn't automatically mean choosing the biggest possible response. He's ten, and I have to consider how this affects him, not just what feels like justice to me. I can teach him that what happened wasn't okay and that Dad will stand up for him without necessarily turning every incident into a legal battle.
For me, standing up for Link means doing what's actually in his best interest—not what makes me feel like I've gotten even.

@Cigarguys Do you even know where this case stands right now???
Because the venue instigated the report and they likely already have footage of the incident, it may not be for you to decide what happens from here on out.
The State could step in and try this case in the interest of the State.

@HootyTheNightOwl no I don't but we've officially told them we are not pressing charges. I will not let Link be questioned my lawyers or be questioned in front of a jury. He would not understand what was happening or answer any questions because he'd get to nervous and say he can't remember over and over again.

Maybe she can be persuaded to give him a gift card to go back and have fun.

It wasnt her place to decide if he was age appropriate for the game. And for her to put her hands upon him would had really pissed me off. I would let it go but i hope she realizes that she was in the wrong and doesn't do that to any other kids. That could possibly be an assault charge.
I wouldn't press charges. But you do what you think is right.

I think I wouldn’t press charges, even though they are deserved. I would try to work with the manager and arrange for her, not to apologize, but for her to state
, clearly, what she did. Every thing she said, including putting hands on your son. People always want to privately fix things they did in public. Huh-huh. You were all bravado and physical when you did it, You don’t get to hide it now.
Then HE gets to decide if it’s satisfactory.

I am sorry Link had to go through this and I hope he is alright. It's a good thing the manager stepped in and made things right with Link. I don't know what that woman's mentality is but this is no longer the 60s, 70s, or the 80s. You are not supposed to lay a hand or grab on another person's child.
Unfortunately, you have too many insensitive people these days. To be honest, I wouldn't file charges. The best thing that Chuck E. Cheese could do is ban her from ever going back and warn her that if she does goes there again, they can press charges.

@Barefooter25 we didn't file the report. The manager did. All I know is she's lucky I wasn't there when she touched him and turned him around.
He was more excited about all the tickets he was given and he picked out a switch lite. He was so proud

@Cigarguys It's best that you aren't pressing charges. You don't want Link to go through that ordeal. Besides, it's possible that all Chuck E. Cheese will do is ban that lady from going there again.

yeah she has no right to be physical with someone else's child .. she's way out of line and then she insulted him to boot .. sigh idk that the police need to be involved but she needs to be lectured for sure 😤 at least the management took your side and didn't let her bully him like that. sheesh was it the only game like that in the whole place? sigh smh some people 😳 ugh
