With or without Dentures
A question for denture wearers. How are you feeling better? With or without dentures. I often leave mine out myself.

When I got all my teeth pulled it was because I was fed up with them. Then, I found out that I really liked being toothless (as in bare gums, no teeth, no dentures). My immediate dentures and final set all fitted quite well. Since I discovered I enjoyed being toothless, I go without at home a lot. But toothless in public and at work remained uncharted territory. It was out of my comfort zone.
After more than 10 years with the same set, the fit is no longer as good as before. So leaving them out is even more rewarding. I'm sure that people can now tell I wear dentures. I developed the small ticks many denture wearers have in order to control them.
My gums have receded a bit, but it is not problematic yet. I'm aware that a bad fitting denture may increase bone loss. And not wearing dentures or eating without teeth both impact the ability to support dentures over time.
My desire to be toothless is strong. The idea that I may become unable to wear my dentures is tantalising. I don't plan on preventing this (nor getting implants). I didn't care about losing real teeth, why would I care about losing fake ones. Come what may.

@ed3342 Getting comfortable with being gummy in public is difficult. I have done it on occasion, but I have not gotten that into my comfort zone, either. I go gummy in public a little more often now, and I find that it's a bit of a thrill. The feeling is wonderful, and I don't look too scary, so I'm going to try to do it more often.
Maybe you can gradually increase your gummy time, along with me. lol

@JohnQ Well, I never had issues with the fact that I became toothless. It was very much a decision I made for myself. I still think it was a very good one. Nor do I have any negatives about wearing dentures. It's a good utility to have around.
Before there were immediates people went toothless for many months. I remember an aunt going through that and everyone was very empathic. I guess that also gave her a boost of confidence. So yes, I think you are right. I guess most people don't care. You may find out that skipping immediates works for you. The only 'drawback' I can imagine is that you start to enjoy that freedom and my find wearing your permanent dentures less desirable.
I guess we'll end up in the same place.
