How I found out I had latex allergy

I was around 12 years old and one weekend my dad decided to paint the kitchen cabinets & drawers & I asked if I could help. Was very excited to help.

I painted one set of drawers & when I started painting a cabinet I was starting to feel itchy. I ignored it. As I'm finishing up one door I get this insane itch on my hands & start madly scratching. But I never look at my hands, I was too laser focused on painting. Once my hands started to hurt is when I finally got good look at my hands. They were bright red & my skin looked bubbled, it honestly resembled bubble wrap, it was swollen.

Should mention that i only got reaction on my hands was because it was only area droplets of paint were landing. My forearms were also itchy & red but since no paint was on them it didn't get those swollen bumps.

I showed my dad & he told me to stop painting. I went to wash my hands & gosh did it burn. My hands hurt so bad. At this point I decided to look at the can of paint & I saw it said it was a latex based paint.

I wanted relief but at time I didn't know there was such a thing as allergy medicine & apparently my dad didn't either lol. For two days my hands were in pain. As for the reaction it left marks on my hands that lasted few weeks, people kept asking if I was attacked by mosquitoes lol
