How can I get rid of Japanese Beetle?

I used neem oil to remove beetles 🪲 on my roses last May.
Is there any other method to get rid of bugs?

These are Japanese Beetles, too many of them.

Have you tried the Japanese beetle traps? It’s like a bag they go into and can’t get out
@Eyeinthesky the key is actually putting them away from your garden or tree etc. They contain an attractant in them. So don't want close to the things you're trying to protect, but lure them away. I bought in bulk ( Sam's club)
@itsok that's what mine are on

@itsok That is helpful, thanks🍀🌸
neem can only do so much.. but physical removal is often a good thing,, takes time,, drop themin a bucket of soapy water.
there are Bil controls but they take a while
dont be squeamish, they cant hurt you
@Eyeinthesky to use topbaco, you will have to use a blender and a coffee filter. blend up abt 4-6 cigarettes, in water with some rubbing alcohol. and if you have them Hot peppers .
blend,, let it sit ten minutes.. the srtain the results.
spray directly on the pants and bugs.
this WILL work, but the blender can no longer be used for food

@SatyrService My blender is too precious..🤣
@Eyeinthesky get a thrift store one,, just for garden needs,,, bit very expensive

Japanese beetles are attracted to sweet smells, including roses and fruits. Deter them from your yard by fostering aromas that repel them. Garlic, cedar, chives, and catnip are bitter scents that keep beetles at bay. Consider planting these scents around susceptible plants to deter beetle infestations.

Milky Spore and Sevin - potent stuff

Beautiful roses - I hope you can preserve them...
fun4us2b · M
@Eyeinthesky It's Sevin - it's a powerful insecticide, but I've used it sparingly to bring back nearly dead roses....
Eyeinthesky · 56-60, F
@fun4us2b I have to be very careful..
fun4us2b · M
@Eyeinthesky Yep...as others said to remove by hand - also FYI spraying with Dawn Dish soap is the one that kills bugs more so than the others...

Chrysanthemums are a favorite for them it makes the stoned when they eat it. So putting plant in large bucket of soap and water,they eat get stoned and fall to death in soapy water
Eyeinthesky · 56-60, F
@Applepiedom I didn’t know that. Thanks. 🌸

@Eyeinthesky sorry it's geraniums. I knew it's one of the iums lol but it is geranium. They get so high they almost pass out lol

Neem oil probably works best. I have noticed rain washes them off so maybe just spraying them with water daily?
Eyeinthesky · 56-60, F
@hunkalove Do you have experience with them? There are so many... stick together but sometimes I saw threesome🤣 or even 4 together...🥴
Traps sometimes work. In the U.S theres an insecticide called Sevin which works, but it can kill bees too and you need to gear up
@Eyeinthesky you're welcome! I hope you find something that works. You've grown beautiful roses!
Like you, my family's rose garden is attacked each year by the beetles...almost nothing stops them!!
Eyeinthesky · 56-60, F
@SethGreene531 I know! They look like army...🥴
@Eyeinthesky Wearing little helmets 😄 They're quite fierce!

I always flick them off the petals when I see them.

japanese beetle traps but watch out they attract bears who like to eat the beetles if there are bears in your vicinity
Eyeinthesky · 56-60, F
@Penny luckily no bears just many beautiful birds. Thanks. 🌸

@Lostpoet Dang, I knew I shouldn't've quit smoking....
Lostpoet · M
@fun4us2b I think insects might also hate coffee grounds you can try spreading that around your trees.
Eyeinthesky · 56-60, F
@Lostpoet I can try that tomorrow... thanks🌸

@icedsky is that legal?🤣
icedsky · 51-55, M
@Eyeinthesky Sure it is. Lots of people use them for pest control in gardens. Lots for sale in the springtime. Can even buy huge amounts of lady bugs for not very much. They are pretty good pest control too.
Eyeinthesky · 56-60, F
@icedsky I didn't know anything about that, so I thought you were joking😀 .. I guess that is nautual method.. I sprayed all my roses bushes with neem oil+water with little washing liquid yesterday. I checked roses this evening, it was free from bugs at this time. Thank you, I learned something new today about nature.🙏🍀
