I Like to Take Pictures

@Scribbles OK, let's get technical lol.

I wanted to take a pic where the water looked sort of milky and foggy. To do that, you need a very slow shutter speed because a slow shutter speed makes all movement look blurry. But, the problem is, you need low light because, otherwise, the pic will be overexposed. You can reduce the amount of light coming through the lens by selecting a very small aperture but, on a sunny afternoon, no aperture is going to be small enough. I waited as long as I could, the sun was actually starting to set behind the rock on the right (hence it being in almost silhouette and casting a big shadow in the water and, the one on the left having that golden glow) but still too much light. So, I used three neutral density filters. They come in different grades and are used to reduce the light going through the lens. I also had the camera mounted on a tripod because even the slightest movement of the camera will make everything blurry.

I took a few frames from varying angles. Unbeknownst to me, my niece had clambered over the rocks on the left and proceeded to paddle in the water. Totally a moment captured in real time as opposed to posed.

The four different shades of water that you see are because of the natural way sea water gets darker with depth and the afore mentioned shadow.

I just love it when a plan comes together 😉

Actually, I always enjoy hearing from people what the story is...aka the thought\planning\etc that all goes into a particular skill(that they are good at) in one little moment in time that they have. Photography is one of your "superpowers" so this was neat. Also, I was a bit pleased that I knew what a neutral density filter lens was...since my sister in law has at least one for her camera-unless I'm mixing it up with her polarized lens? idk...because they are similarish??? but the physics of how it deals with light is totally different I imagine... Anyway, I just remember that because I once knew someone who had a neutral density lens for his very large (and expensive) telescope to "reduce brightness and increase contrast"(Or more or less putting sunglasses on his telescope as he put it) for things like moon viewing. Why he thought star gazing was romantic to invite me to when he was constantly freaked out by anyone other then him touching the telescope is still beyond me

@Scribbles A polarizing filter is very different in terms of what it actually does. But it does reduce light somewhat.

Putting sunglasses in front of a lens/telescope........yeah, that's not a bad analogy :)

@sarabee1995 thanks. I was tempted to tell her to stand very still so that she wouldn't be so blurred. But the whole thing came together so well and so organically that I just knew it was best to just shut up and take the shot lol.
