WW2 era picture. They probably couldn't get someone to take a picture or more likely he was leaving for the war and this was a last minute idea. I'd like to think he survived and came back to her.

Beautiful pic. The intimacy of it evokes a touch of sadness. Yes, I agree with you, I hope he came back to her and they were able to live a full life together.
