hawks love that tree, I'm sure.

@SW-User Eagles used to frequent it. It's pretty dead now, though.

@QueenofCups dead trees are a surprisingly popular option for many birds. I'm a little surprised if the eagles left it. unless it's just becoming unstable or something. even the herons will take to the dead ones around here from time to time.

@SW-User Around here, eagles and hawks tend to like the fully developed evergreens, like the ones on the right in the background. Other birds aren't so picky. Crows and jays will perch anywhere. There was some thinning that occurred around it. It might have disturbed them enough to move on.

@QueenofCups huh. around here, the hawks (and I'd think the eagles too, as other birds of prey) seem to like the dead trees - I think to get a clear view and such. weird.

@SW-User I'm sure it depends on the area, and I'm sure that they would choose a dead tree if it benefited them. I've mostly observed them perching on evergreen branches, especially alongside rivers or lakes. Salmon and trout are the big food sources for them here.

@QueenofCups cool. maybe the evergreens help them hide. I've heard trout are extremely skittish.

@SW-User That's what I've always thought. They can still observe openly, but be more concealed. Trout are slippery little buggers.
