Long exposure with B&W film

More of an experiment than anything. I metered for the temple and got a reading of EV2! Putting the temple on zone 5 gave me a shutter speed if 4 seconds at f5.6. Compensating for reciprocity gave an exposure time of 22 seconds. There’s some strange halo effects, but these may be due to shooting through double glazed windows!!

Pentax MX, Pentax-M 135mm f3.5 at f5.6 and 22 second exposure.

Nice!

I just bought a Canon AE-1 and I've been studying videos on how to use it. The only thing that confuses me now is the light meter so I think I'll trust the Sunny 16 rule when outside and refer to an app when indoors.

@RodneyTrotter1 I believe the AE-1 has a shutter priority mode (you select an aperture and it will decide on the correct shutter speed). Using this automatic mode as a starting place may help?
Shot w/ my iPhone 13. Turned into b & w.
I respect photographers who use roll film and non iPhone cameras.
I have a NIKON D-3200’and one day I will hopefully go back to using it, especially if I get a telephoto lens .
Until then…

@soar2newhighs i use my phone quite a lot (Samsung S24). Its much easier to carry and does a far better job at answering calls than my cameras 😁
I'll often convert cellphone photos to B&W with Lightroom and Photoshop.
This is a recent image from Maraetai near Auckland, New Zealand taken with my phone.
Hate to admit it but despite using analog and digital ale cameras, I am spoiled by my iPhone 13
Here is a simple image that I turned from
Color to b & w.

@soar2newhighs there's most definitely a difference between images taken with a phone and those taken with a camera. Which is better? They each have merit. I suppose shooting with a film camera requires a greater understanding of light whereas the digital camera or phone does everything for you. I went back to film to get more engaged with the making of a photograph as Ansel Adams may have said.

Anyway, here's another cellphone photo for you.
@nzjim Yes…Ansel, The Zone system. I took the NYI course. Great course.
