I Love Photography

I guess looking back now my love of photography started from a young age (about 6 is the youngest I remember being with a camera in my hand), I always liked taking photos or filming things on a video camera but back then video camera used them small cassette type tapes and still photo camera used rolls of film so I was limited in what I was allowed to use cameras for because my parents didn’t just want photos and video footage of any old rubbish right?

When digital cameras came about finally I could let loose on my photography a bit more, I still liked to film on camcorders but it was still photographs I liked taking more at this stage.

Growing up through my pre-teens & teenage years with digital cameras was amazing I even got my own digital camera a month off my 10th Birthday (only because we were going on our first holiday abroad at this time) it wasn’t the greatest quality by any means but I loved it, it was my own to use, no adults telling me I was taking too many photos, it was mine to use as I wanted (although I still had to be careful because you didn’t get chargers with digital cameras then you had to keep changing the batteries)

That whole trip (2 weeks) I never put the cameras away (we took 2 digital cameras plus some disposable ones) and I know I took loads of photos. And from that moment on I suppose my parents had created a monster by giving me my first digital camera and allowing me to use their better/bigger version sometimes.

Over the years since I’ve had many cameras from underwater ones to digital pocket camera to disposable ones to film canister obes etc and I’ve taken more photographs than I’d care to count too but I’ll never forget the day I got my first DSLR camera (currently saving up for another one which will be my second)

The strange thing is though all the history and back story of my love for photography from about 6 years old and it still took me til I was 23 years old to connect the dots and realise that it had been something I’d loved doing almost my whole life and to realise it wasn’t just a hobby or something I did just on special occasions because given the chance from the age of 6 if we’d had cameras then like we have now with massive storage spaces/memory cards and rechargeable batteries I’d have spent almost my whole life with a camera in my hand taking photos, don’t get me wrong looking back now of course in that time I’ve taken unbelievable amounts of photos as it is but with almost limitless boundaries I can guarantee it would have been so many more. Photography isn’t a hobby it’s a passion or lifestyle for me.

I’ve had no professional training it it and I’ve not studied photography at school/college or university either so am I the best out there? By a long shot I highly doubt it but am I awful at it? I don’t think so but then with just over 22 and a half years self taught practice with various different cameras I guess why would I be?
