I’ll be in the kitchen doing something and listen to the parakeets talking, and repeat something they’ve said, about the 2nd or 3rd time one of them will say either “You heard us” or “She hears us”....they know I am listening to them and they will tell each other or me.

@cherokeepatti That's adorable! Your birds know they are loved.😁

@JimminyChristmas They wanted to go out to the sun room yesterday and it didn’t warm up enough. They all, including the females, were yelling “Thanksgiving!” At me all afternoon. Their new word and they think it’s the same as Thank You, which they say when they want me to do something for them or give them treats or after I give them something. It was cloudy today and none of them begged to go out there.

@JimminyChristmas The one thing I don’t understand is how these parakeets know the proper pronouns to use. The oldest parakeet used to say “we” when his mate was alive. After she died, he would say “I”. I’d be yelling at two of the other birds to stop squabbling and fussing with each other and Ike would speak up and say “We didn’t do it” to tell me they were innocent. I’d tell him I knew they didn’t do it, then it was “I didn’t do it” later on.

@cherokeepatti Maybe they think of it as plural and singular? That's interesting, and shows how smart they are.

@JimminyChristmas All I know is that they listen to us talk and also listen to the tv talk shows etc. They pick it up naturally.

@JimminyChristmas Haha that’d be funny. Last year this time of the year Boo-Boo was listening to commercials and started saying Ho-Ho-Ho-Ho, and then Hee-Hee-Hee-Hee and then Ha-ha-ha-ha...all kinds of laughs. He stopped doing it and I’ve been saying it to him to see if he’ll do it again.
