Have you had your daily dose of seemingly alien horrors?

This is the Antarctic scale worm, a type of bristle worm. Bristle worms are (primarily) marine invertebrates that have existed since the Cambrian period, roughly 520 million years ago. Bobbit worms are a commonly known species of bristle worm. The image below is a bobbit worm.

Well. Holy fucking shit.
MethDozer · M
@caccoon That thing would give even Lovecraft nightmares.
@caccoon Don't play with words. Tell us how you really feel! 🤣
caccoon · 36-40
@MethDozer I'd say so. Just imagine that thing grabbing onto your toe.

I kind of think it's really cool looking, but also totally horrifying and gross.
MethDozer · M
@caccoon I would lose my mind.

That's it.....fuck biodiversity
caccoon · 36-40
@MethDozer Same.

I love how people are afraid of aliens and ghosts and things like that... BUT LOOK AT THIS SHIT?
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@caccoon I mean, I'm of the opinion that deep sea animals are likely pretty comparable in biological differences from land animals to how different aliens would be from earth life. It's basically a completely different biosphere with radically different viable biological strategies.
caccoon · 36-40
@UndeadPrivateer I completely agree. There is some weird shit down there.

It's awesome.
MethDozer · M
@caccoon 100% on board with you here.

I may have this tough image but when it comes to these types of creatures I'm biggest 4 year old sally there is.
caccoon · 36-40
@MethDozer XD I mean, they are pretty damn scary. And like @UndeadPrivateer said, they look so alien. It's hard to not to be afraid or repulsed by them because they are so foreign.
MethDozer · M
@caccoon Even large centipedes and June bugs set me off.
caccoon · 36-40
@MethDozer June bugs do freak me out a bit because they are big and they fly. 😨 Plus, they kinda fly like drunken fools.

Centipedes can be pretty creepy, but at least they stay on the ground!! I think house centipedes are cute though, and I like to give them water.
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@caccoon I modeled the poses of my two scratchbuilt Chaos Spawn for my Warhammer army after house centipedes. 😅 They're great, but I definitely understand why people are often creeped out by them.

Also, we have tooooons of june bugs here.
MethDozer · M
@caccoon And they always want to tangle on hair. It's like they zero right into it and cling for dear life once they make contact.
caccoon · 36-40
@UndeadPrivateer That's awesome!! They are really cool little guys, I think. But, they have a lot of legs and they move pretty fast sometimes hahaha. So I guess they can be startling! I like that they get rid of the silverfish. 😤

We have tons here, too. 😩 Where I grew up, we didn't have them. But when I moved here... uuuugh. I didn't know what they were, and I used to call them "Thomases" for some reason haha.

@MethDozer They do! Maybe they like the pheromones. Or maybe they have that hair cutting fetish.
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@caccoon Relevant pics. Old partly painted pics here because I don't have them at my place right now, my army's still over at my brother's from the last game night we had. The pose specifically modeled after how house centipedes rear up, with their general body layouts made from the perspective of them normally moving with very centipede-like movements using all 8+ of their limbs.

June bugs definitely look like Thomases. 😌
caccoon · 36-40
@UndeadPrivateer Those are awesome!! They look so brutal. :D The angry, badass cousins of house centipedes!!
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@caccoon Yessss. I love them, I need to make a third so I can bring them in as trios of Chaos Spawn. That's a thing for several new game modes in the newest edition that just came out.
