It really depends on the living situation and the dog's behavior.
I don't lock my dogs in crates. The door to the backyard is left open for them when I am gone, they sure run their patrol. LOL.
Feels kind of wrong to lock them up... but sometimes you've gotta.

@LithiumDrop I feel bad for lockin my pup up, but he seems to enjoy it. He has walked in with the door open and just laid down. I think he realizes its his safe space away from the craziness of my house. lol
