Do your pets ever learn to do new things (spontaneously)?

My female parakeet, Kiwi, likes to squawk. Last night she and the other female were "Squawk-talking" back and forth...something new and it seemed like they were talking with each other.

do you ever chime in and mimic them ?
I like to sit outside in the cool of the evening
and mimic the birds and see how many I can get to respond
Wish I had a translator for animals
I make my Daughters roosters just stand there in place
they go to scratch and I make the Caw sound they make
they look at me while I keep drawing a line over and over ,they will stand there as long as I keep doing it unless a cat distracts them
My cousin showed me on the farm you can lay a hen on her side ,and keep drawing a line in the sand she can see ,,let her go she can't get up
So when my rooster was mean to my grandkids ,I pinned him and did it to him
after that if he tried to flog at them
I would call his name ,,I call him Caw over that noise he makes when he is fired up
Now if I call his name he gets in the back of the pen and just makes that noise ,but he wont try to spur them ,,he knows I will spank that butt and all he can do is lay there ,LOL ,,not really spank him ,more like scare him too .
So I do love birds
We have hawks and owls and cardinals ,blue jays ,ravens and crows
sparrows and humming birds ,,so I wish I could actually talk to them
my dog has just a few noises she makes ,,and the forcing the nose under my hand to say pet me ,,rolling over for a belly rub ,and a growl bark she wants to play ,
But she is not much on conversation LOL

@rckt148 I mimicked Kiwi's squawking every morning so much she stopped doing it last year, I guess she caught on. But she does it now sometimes...last night was cute what they were doing. When I was little kid and living on the farm I'd go out to the chicken yard and make a sound like a "singing" hen and they'd turn their head to see where the other chicken was...I still do that sometimes for the heck of it...made my sister turn around and ask where the chicken was when we were walking in the woods one time...haha...I used to do a duck call and make people turn around and look (it's good to hide and watch when you do it).... When I'm out in the yard raking up around the shed a robin comes around to watch, waiting till I leave to find worms and bugs. One time one came and sat on the ground, I froze like a statue and let that bird get close and then I made a bird noise and watched it raise the feathers on it's head trying to figure out how that happened.

@cherokeepatti Once of my best friends in North Carolina his uncle owns Smiths Farms ,,they raise chickens for lots of companies you buy from in the store ,not hormones ,free range
His Dad shot him with a shot gun for getting drunk and high and tearing his parents house apart ,,he was a foot ball star in school ,,kind of spoiled
So he Dad shot him to get him to quit
When she was in recovery unable to work construction
His Uncle gave him a job ,burning the beaks of bitty's
And he always used to say "People are just like chickens "
I say what ? you heard me ,people are just like chickens
If they see one weak or sick or with a sore ,,they will peck it to death
I watch a little stag in the yard ,he is trying to get near the hens
and that rooster knows right where he is ,
And when he messed up and gets to close to his hens
that rooster is on his butt
I love nature ,,all the tender hearts about killing Bambie
They should see the life of some of the animals in the wild
First time I dressed a turkey ,I was blown away by my wife
She went to the pen ,grabbed 2 around the neck ,,
She laid them at the chopping block and said "There city boy ,I killed them ,you clean them " now I grew up dressing 100's of pounds of fish in a day .
and they were still flipping around if it was a fresh catch .
But that was my first time cleaning a turkey ,seeing her Dad butcher a cow .
Kids today don't have a clue ,all they know is its ready for them in the store
I loved Grandma's little one legged bird ,thats when I learned they know when to roost ,
come sundown seeing them all headed to the hen house on their own
or taking to the trees ,,,,we know a different world Dear
I would love to hear you mimic birds ,,,I bet with both of us doing it people would think we were nuts
Have a blessed one dear ,,and be careful in that heat ,love ya 🤗

@rckt148 I remember seeing one hen that was so hen pecked it was nearly naked with large bald spots. And yeah people can be the same way. A 15-year old boy was a week away from starving to death in Meeker, OK when he was rescued by a passer-by this week...taken to a hospital...he had been eating twigs and grass, forced to live in a metal barn by his family, had two half-brothers, a father and step-mother all eating very well...father a correctional officer at a prison. They all got arrested and the boy had surgery to remove the wood from his belly. I don't understand this mentality, the boy was step-child to the mother...but still don't understand.
