Should I be worried?

My wife has stage-4 cancer, and our cat has started sitting by the bed when she's laying down. He's never done this before, and now she's worried that he might know something is going to happen soon. Can animals really know if something is going to happen? Should I be worried?

Cats do that when the owner doesn't feel well...dogs too. Mine would lay on my chest when I was ill or recouping from surgery...otherwise he never did it. Doesn't mean at ALL that something is going to happen.
