He was very popular in the Research Triangle area of North Carolina. Ripken would retrieve the kickoff tee for NC State's football team, bats for the Durham Bulls, and was part of a ceremonial puck drop at a Carolina Hurricanes' hockey game. Rest in peace, Ripken. You were the goodest boy.
