Everyone was suggesting I get a dog yesterday

I just woke up after 3 hours missing my old dog. I'm afraid if I get a new dog maybe I won't love it the same. And eventually it will leave me and die.

So much for these sleeping pills that are supposed to knock me out hahah

Losing a pet sucks and makes me question ever getting another one

I get that. I've buried half a dozen over the years. when the current two pass (assuming I outlast them) then there won't be any more

the true cost of a pet is when you have to say goodbye - I had to put one of them down (or give the order). part of me hated doing it and part of me said I should have done it months sooner

I absolutely know this feeling. The truth of the matter is you will never love anyone the way you love your last fur baby. It’s impossible. When and if you decided to share your heart with another, the love will be different, but it will still be true and real. You will love it as much too. Your fur baby made sure your heart was big enough.

Honestly, the fear of a new companion fades as you fall deeper in love with it. Your loss is still fresh so it’s natural the thought is there.

I struggled (and still do) with the guilt of whether I did everything for my hairy man that I could. I also still feel guilty sometimes for replacing him with J-Hound.

Sorry for the ramble. It really is your choice whether to bring another companion into your heart. Only you will know when the time is right.

I feel exactly the same way. My died in March. I think about getting a new one at least once a day but I don’t think the time is right because I just can’t get over my loss

I wonder if that's how parents that only had one child felt

I lost two dogs growing up and one replaced the other. Both deaths weren't nice but the second dog was absolutely loved as much as the first. It's almost impossible not to love them if you love dogs. They're never the same but they are equally special.

If you're not ready, you're not ready.
Losing my dog was hard. I myself am not ready to get another dog. My family has a Jack Russell, and I love her, but it's not the same thing as she's more my brother's dog than anything.
