Puppy playing but thinks it's OK to bite...

He's been nipping at my fingers...
So my understanding from friends dogs is to say OUCH! NO BITE!
Stop playing and ignore them...
For a period of time...

But this little one doesn't want to go into his crate and uses every tactic he can to not go in.

As a consequence of trying to do that he thought I was still playing and decided to have a nip on my back.

😒

It wasn't and has never been painful but he needs to learn this isn't acceptable...

He seems to start doing this the moment I pass him a ball, in an attempt to teach him how to play fetch..
My fingers must be especially tasty.

One thing I read when I first got my dog is that it’s important to make the crate happy place, not a punishment place. Lots of comfy things in there, and toys.. helps to feed them in the crate, but keeping the door open. Helps to put them in the crate with a bone or something for short windows and close the door even when you’re home just walking around.

The teething thing is pretty common. The advice your friends gave is good.

Sounds like it might take him a while to not feel lousy about being in the crate then if before you got him it was a bad thing @Mellowgirl

@WhateverWorks so to conclude, when I got back he was happy to see me.
But he demonstrated that he wasn't happy that I left him.
He nudged me a few times, ran and went into the crate, then the door and the turned his back to me.
To punish me he spent half an hour sitting across the room from me.
Hahaha.
Cheeky little mite!

Sometimes if you make a quick loud Yelp sound (like a dog makes when surprised or hurt) … it stops them in their tracks
