I had her put down in my arms because I didn't want her to die on a table. [I Loved My Dog]

I was at work when I got a phone call saying my dog Daisy would have to be put down. I signed out of work and made the arrangements the same day. I couldn't let her suffer any longer.

I drove her to the vet's office, playing a song that reminded me of one of my previous dogs (and her best friend). When I got there, I just sat there with her for awhile before bringing her in, while the song played.

The staff said I could have this done outside, and it was a nice day, so I decided that would be a good idea. I brought her out back and just hung out with her while the vet prepared inside. The whole time, she just acted like she was ready to go. Not scared or concerned or even wondering what was going on. In fact, I got the impression she was actually upset at me for waiting so long to do this.

The vet finally came outside. I picked up Daisy and sat with her in my arms as the vet brought the needle to her. As much as I knew what was about to happen, I wasn't prepared for the more vivid details. He stuck the needle in and her whole body went limp like a bag of warm water. I immediately started sobbing. Her head unexpectedly spilled over my forearm. It was so much different than holding a living dog who lovingly works with your posture. She was just limp.

As her head fell away from me, in shock, I leaned my head over to watch her eyes slowly close. My gaze was glued to hers, following her eyes as her head dropped, unwilling to let go. Until she was dead.

The vet patiently grabbed her from my arms and I immediately threw myself onto the grass and cried like a baby. He took her inside. I never saw her again.

I went back inside the office to sit on a chair and I heard some of the vet assistants say "aww" when they saw me. One of them came over, sat with me, and talked for awhile to cheer me up. It did help. But nothing would change the fact that the dog I grew up with was now dead.

I love you, Daisy.

Sigh. I had some pictures of me and her before her death, on EP, but I can't access them now.
