Personally, I've had a British longhair till 2018 and a Norwegian forest cat till last year. Now I have one calico and one black shorthaired cat. I found my longhaired forest cat abandonned just outside my mom's graveyard at the car park the month after her death.
That my little forest cat got agressive cancer at an age of only 13 and that was extremely upsetting for me. I posted something about it at the time. Breeders here just abandon kittens when there's something wrong with them. My two other cats were from a pound and the calico one has a heart condition.
The black shorthaired was put out by some local authority here as a young cat into some large estate, but there was no feral-ness at all in her and she ended up back in the pound where she was a kitten. I don't know what the treatment of cats is where you live but it's very hypocritical here.
My Grandma has what she says is a Norwegian Forest Cat but I think he might actually be a Maine Coon or atleast a mix of it. She found him as a kitten just hanging around her house so she brought him in and it’s been her cat ever since.
@Wallflow3r Yes, that's a lovely cat. Maine Coons are typically larger and more social, while Norwegian Forest Cats have a distinct triangular head shape and a more independent streak.
@RockinPop54 I have two cats that's enough for now. Perhaps when I'm really living in an open space. Love to move to somewhere were there are less cars and even lesser people.
@RockinPop54 I'm looking after my dad's pigeons now. They're really getting into my system. One male pigeon lost his chick to another. The female took another. And he's still trying to look after it in spite of being picked and such. He's such a keeper. I can't get rid of them all now.
@InstructHer A very good one to have. I've had three black cats now. People found them to be unlucky to have till only recently again. But that's a very special breed alright.
@MoSmith Oh dear, that sums up my childhood. I live now in a cottage with fields at the back but I still keep my cats inside. Except the British longhair. He had been injured before and he kept himself nicely to the local gardens.
