I've always been a cat person and I love them. Never had more than 2 at a time but always at least one. Then one day I had to go away and I left my precious baby in the care of who was living in the house. I was away for 3 months and during that time he just disappeared, I believe he ran away as I did not come back for so long. It broke my heart and I grieved for so long that I couldn't get another cat for about 5 years. Finally I gave in and am so in love with my latest one. However... I am now very grounded and it often bothers me that I can't travel without worrying about my cat - I hate putting them in boarding kennels as well. I know there are other options but yeah... all costly and don't always fit my situation. So... think carefully before you get one! As much as I love mine and couldn't do without her now (I rescued a stray) I think I would be a bit freer without pets. It's tough one to juggle. Joy to your everyday life or freedom to move??
I definitely understand what you mean. I've always had cats in my life but right now I don't, as I can't right now, but I know exactly what you mean. I miss them too. Taking in a cat from a shelter would be so wonderful. I've done that same thing. If you'll be traveling, and you can afford it, you could always put them in a kennel while you're gone or let a relative keep it for you while you're gone. Would that be possible? You could also ask a vet office if they will keep it for you and that way you know for sure it will be taken care of and it may not cost that much. What about those ideas?

I was going to say go ahead and adopt one from the shelter but not if you will have to leave it while travelling away so often, unless of course you can find someone who will feed and care for them while you are away.
But they do bring a lot of joy to our lives, I wouldn't be without mine as I love her so much.

I feel you, pet. We got a kitten when we moved to our new home. He's grown into a family member now. Don't know what I'd do without him.

I understand completely. I have never been without a cat (or dog) in my life. You absolutely should adopt from a shelter. There are so many willing to offer you the love you need. There is nothing like a purring soul sitting beside you.

My son just adopted one of these kittens just today!!!
There were 5 females and 1 male! They already have a under 2 year old female at home, named Crawley....But today they got her a friend, another female based on it's personality..... Horrible back story though the kittens mother cat was torn to shreds, as the owner had gotten a dog, and it killed the mother cat when the kittens were only 4 weeks old, and they had to bottle feed the kittens!! So my son and his fiance felt they needed to rescue one of these kittens now that they own their own house!! And already have their first young cat, two is better than one!!! So far so good, the kitten is settling in nicely! Tomorrow they will take her to the vet to get her dewormed and all her shots!!

I get the same experience from feeding a couple of families of local magpies. Each year my feeding makes it easier for these birds to raise young and when those young are old enough the parents bring them to me for feeding as well. I know they arent showing them to me. Its just the food. But it does feel good..😷

I am about to be homeless and have 2 perfect cats that need a home and loving person to attach to if you're near northern Arizona.

You could feed pigeons, there should always be a bunch of them around. They get so tame you can pick them up after a while.
