I Miss My Cats That Passed Away

My 18 year old cat passed away in February of this year. She had a kidney disorder that suddenly exacerbated, and we had her euthanized to end the suffering. She was so ill the last day of her life. She had been a wonderful, sweet, energetic, playful, inquisitive, intelligent, and loyal kitty. We had cat doors for her so that she could go outside and come back into the house whenever she desired. A lock on her doors was controlled by the microchip inserted under the skin by her vet. The lock read the microchip and only allowed her to enter. Our cat had a definite boundary in all directions from our home that she would not venture past. She went with us for one block as we walked the dogs. Frequently she would run ahead and wait for us to catch up to her. Then, at the end of the block, she would watch us go ahead and either wait for our return, or go back home. I loved her so much, and still expect to see her in the house. Or, I will hear something that reminds me of her. This is the first time that I have been able to write about her, and it is painful.

God has given me three wonderful cats in my adult life. Our second cat lived to be 15 and I still miss her, too. Our first cat only lived one year, but I have such good memories of her, also.

Recently, an elderly relative told me that she may need to move into a retirement home and will have to send her young cat to live with one of her children. I told her that if it didn't work out, that I would love to give her kitty a home with us. My husband has been reluctant to adopt another cat, but he wasn't opposed to welcoming that cat into our household. Who knows, maybe there will be another cat in my life. I certainly hope so!
Wow... I have lost dogs and a cat and it def. IS painful for me, as well, even though some are very old events.

Our family cat lived to be 21...and I was with her as she was euthanized due to having cancer tumors in her intestine... I buried her, my last action for her...she had been our cat for all those years, so she was a very constant part of the landscape until then.

The missing of the familiar sounds etc. is part of how we acknowledge the importance of our pets/companion animals in our lives. These amazing beings enrich our lives in ways which we may not understand until we do lose them.

She and your other beloved cats will be there at the rainbow bridge for you...
@SomeMichGuy Thank you very much. We have also lost several dogs and have a dear dog now. For many years, we always had 3 pets at all times. I am so sorry for your loses as well. God graces us with our beloved pets and they are very important members of our families. I truly believe that because we have such special bonds with them, that God will allow us to be reunited when we pass into the next life. They will indeed be waiting for us at the rainbow bridge.

@Back2Just4Fun It sounds like you have said goodbye to a beloved pet also. If that is the case, you have my sympathy. Thank you for your kind words.🤗
@Autumnlover yes .. I have several times 17 year old Labrador who loved me and protected me through my divorce.. she saw the good, bad & ugly side of me ohhh how I loved her so.. got another lab while my oldest lab was still living ..
She made it 14 Years .. We now have another beautiful lab who turned 3 this past month..
There she is .. pretty as a picture
She is beautiful! All of your labs have lived a long time. We have had two mixed labs. One lived to age 14. Our second lab lived to age 10. She was mixed with Doberman, and our vet said that she lived longer than expected. When I was a kid, we had a lab who lived for 13 years. My fur kids are my babies.

It's good to hear that you love animals, too.
