I remember talking to some Chinese dude in college who had basically just gotten off the plane

And for some reason, the idea of grilling dog meat came up (I swear to god I wasn't being racist lol) and I mention to him that Americans are weird about that. He gives me this incredulous look, and I tell him that if someone were just grilling dog meat in public, Americans would freak the fuck out and possibly call the police. He genuinely didn't know before coming here. It was so fucking funny because his response was completely justified; Americans elevate dogs above all other sentient animals and it's completely irrational.
